During my final year at the National College of Art & Design (NCAD), I was tasked with creating a fully illustrated, wordless book inspired by the annual Silent Book Contest. The project involved developing an original narrative, designing characters, establishing a cohesive visual aesthetic and communicating a complete story entirely through imagery.

Drawing inspiration from the unique personalities, behaviours and characteristics of my four dogs, I developed a playful, character-driven adventure that explores friendship, discovery and problem-solving through visual storytelling.

Story synopsis (spoilers): In the town centre, a magical, rainbow-coloured ball brings vibrancy to the world. One night, a mysterious cat steals the sacred object, leaving the town entirely grey. Flapjack and Loki, the story's canine heroes, awaken to the colourless world and embark on a quest to restore it. Guided by their fellow dogs, they follow the cat's trail through the Washed Woodland and the Ferocious Fence, eventually reaching the Cat Castle. After Loki successfully retrieves the ball, the pair return home and restore colour to the town. To prevent future thefts, the dogs construct a protective foil fountain around the magical object. The town celebrates its newfound security, and the story concludes with the dogs peacefully falling asleep as the sun sets over their vibrant home.
